Buying a Home in Clemmons? Ask How Fall Leaf Pick-Up Works

If you are buying a home in Clemmons this fall, here is one useful question to add to your list: how does the Village handle leaf pick-up? It is a small detail that tells you a lot about what yard work will look like after closing.

The Village of Clemmons began its 2026 leaf collection on October 19. According to the Village's Public Works Department, trucks run continuously throughout the municipality, and collection continues until the volume of leaves dissipates, typically around the end of January. Because of the volume of leaves and changing weather, the Village cannot promise a specific pickup day for any individual home, so a pile may sit between passes.

The Village asks residents to follow a few simple rules:

  • Rake leaves into a windrow no wider than 5 feet at the edge of your yard, in an accessible spot.
  • Keep piles free of sticks, limbs, and garden debris such as tomato vines or cornstalks. Piles mixed with limbs or other yard waste will not be collected.
  • Do not bag leaves.
  • Do not place leaves in the street.
  • Do not block piles with vehicles.

Rain and freezing weather pause the trucks, because the vacuum equipment cannot pick up wet or frozen leaves, and it can take a few days for piles to dry out.

If the home you are buying has limbs to trim, note that November is the last month for limb pick-up in 2026. Limbs should be at the edge of the street by 7 a.m. on the Monday of the scheduled week: the first full week of the month for homes west of Lewisville-Clemmons Road and Middlebrook Drive (the Tanglewood side), and the second full week for homes east of them (the Winston-Salem side).

As a buyer, it is worth asking the seller how the yard has been handled this season, and checking the Village of Clemmons website, which posts weekly collection updates throughout the fall. A little planning keeps the yard tidy through your first fall in your new home.
