Selling a Home in Lewisville? What to Do With the Big Stuff Before You List

Getting a Lewisville home ready to sell usually means facing the big stuff: the old sofa in the basement, the worn mattress in the guest room, the grill that stopped working two summers ago. None of it fits in a trash cart, so here is what the Town of Lewisville offers.

The Town runs designated bulky item pickup events for items too large to fit in a trash cart. The fall 2026 event began Monday, October 12. During a designated week, items go at the curb by 6 a.m. on Monday, in plain view, not bagged or boxed, and within three feet of the curb. Waste Management trucks pass through each neighborhood only once, and anything set out after the crew passes will not be collected. The service is for single-family residences, not businesses or apartments.

Accepted items include household and lawn furniture, carpet and extra-large rugs, bicycles, toilets, grills without propane, and mattresses and box springs, with a limit of two sets per household. Appliances such as stoves, refrigerators, freezers, water heaters, dishwashers, washers, and dryers are also accepted, and refrigerator and freezer doors must be removed first.

Just as important is what the trucks will not take: televisions, computers and other electronics, mirrors or glass, tires, paint, chemicals, hazardous waste, batteries, motor oil, microwaves, lumber and construction debris, yard waste, clothing, books, cardboard, and bagged trash. Piles mixed with unaccepted items will not be removed.

If you miss the pickup week, or your timing does not match the schedule, the Town gives each Lewisville household up to three landfill vouchers per year for bulky item disposal at the Hanes Mill Road Landfill. Call Town Hall at 336-945-5558 for details, or reach Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities at 336-727-8000.

As you prepare to list, plan your cleanout around these options early. A house that shows well starts with rooms, closets, and a garage free of the things you are not taking with you.
